About St Sampson's School
We believe that all of our students will have the opportunity to achieve the best that they are capable of because of the quality of the school. Our belief that St Sampson’s is a good school was endorsed by the last validation. Some of the noteworthy aspects that were recognised by the Validation Report include:
• the calm and purposeful ethos where students enjoy their lessons and have a responsible attitude towards their learning
• the steady improvement in levels of attainment
• the caring nature of the school where high standards of behaviour are expected and students feel safe and valued
The School offers opportunities for achievement in a wide variety of ways so that the students leave with the knowledge, skills and understanding to equip them for adulthood. The challenging teaching ensures that there is the possibility of high academic success where appropriate, whilst those who need additional support are able to receive it so that they can progress.
There are many openings for students to develop their creative talents and sport also plays an important part in the life of the school. It is also important for their future that our students develop their sense of responsibility and both social and leadership skills and we aim provide the opportunities for this to happen.
The School has enjoyed considerable success in the last 12 months in a variety of ways. In the last academic year, 52% of our Year 11 students achieved 5 A*-C GCSE passes and 100% achieved 5 A*-G. These were our best set of results and show the hard work and effort put in by both the students and the staff. In addition, we had very good Key Stage 3 results in all subjects including core subjects:
• Eng: 86% at L5 and above with 19% attaining L6 and above
• Maths: 80% at L5 and above with 29% attaining L6 and above
• Science: 76% at L5 and above with 36% attaining L6 and above
Also during the past year there has been continuing success in various sporting events; a trip to Brittany for our GCSE French students; a skiing trip to Italy; several trips away on Opportunities Week; Duke of Edinburgh participation; students’ work published in a National Short Story competition; involvement in Maths Challenges and some excellent music and drama performances.
