LIBERATION DAY ROAD RELAY
Every year on May 9th the secondary schools put forward their best 6 runners to compete in the Liberation Day Relay. The run takes place near Castle Cornet, around the slaughter house and Havelet Bay.
This year the St Sampson’s Boys’ Team won the race and broke the record by 3 seconds. The team was Will Garnett, Danny Cooley, Jamie Le Maitre, Adam Dunn, Daniel Ozanne, James Gaudion and sub Tom De La Mare. Will started the race with a flying first leg and Danny had a strong second section although 2 strong runners from other schools made up places on him. However, Jamie managed to pull us back to second place on his leg. Adam received the baton 10 metres behind and even though he was not feeling very well he managed to take the lead. Dan then extended this lead on his fifth leg allowing James to take home the glory. Even though Les Beaucamps slipped on a fish (!!!!), St Sampson’s Sharks were never going to lose.
Several of the Year 10 girls were unable to compete so the team consisted of all Year 9 girls who put up a valiant fight against some very strong opposition from Grammar and Ladies College. Georgia Queripel, Emma Bailey, Jodie Loveridge, Chelsea Marley, Donna Gallienne and Emma Le Conte finished 4th beating LMDC, LBC and St PP.
Well done to all who competed and a big thank you to those who came down to support the event.
